15 years of Beineu-Shymkent Gas Pipeline LLP

The company’s mission

Gas pipeline project aimed at providing the south of Kazakhstan with natural gas has its origins in the strategic leadership of the heads of state of China and Kazakhstan, as well as the high level of mutual trust between the governments of the two countries.

Since 2007, China and Kazakhstan parties have successively signed the Agreement on Cooperation in the Construction and Operation of the Kazakhstan-China Gas Pipeline, as well as a number of supplementary minutes, laying a solid foundation for high-level planning and institutional support for the construction and operation of the project.

In 2011 Kazakhstan and China established the Beineu-Shymkent Gas Pipeline LLP on a parity basis.
On September 7, 2013, PRC President Xi Jinping, in an important speech, first put forward the “Silk Road Economic Belt” initiative. On the same day, the heads of the two states jointly pressed a symbolic button to launch the Beineu-Bozoy-Shymkent gas pipeline project, marking the transition of this important initiative into the practical phase of implementation. After a series of expansion and modernization stages, by 2023 Beineu-Bozoy-Shymkent gas pipeline reached a capacity of 15 billion cubic meters of gas per year.

For more than ten years, Beineu-Bozoy-Shymkent gas pipeline project has consistently followed the principles of “joint discussion, joint construction, and joint use,” actively fulfilling its social responsibilities, creating jobs, ensuring returns on shareholders investments, promoting the sustainable development of the joint venture, and deepening mutually beneficial cooperation between China and Kazakhstan in the field of main gas pipelines. As a result, an energy artery with a dual strategic function was successfully established—ensuring gas supplies to Kazakhstan and gas deliveries to China, benefiting the peoples of both countries.
