15 years of Beineu-Shymkent Gas Pipeline LLP
Construction phase
The gas pipeline project, aimed at supplying the south of Kazakhstan with natural gas, originates in Beineu and extends to Shymkent, providing a direct connection to five key gas transportation systems, such as Central Asia-Center, Bukhara-Ural, and others, as well as Bozoy underground gas storage facility. As a result, a national energy hub has been formed based on the principle of “one trunkline – six connections, end-to-end energy connectivity throughout the entire country.” This has made possible to transport natural gas from the world’s largest Western fields – Tengiz, Karachaganak, and Kashagan – to supply environmentally friendly fuel to Kyzylorda, Turkestan, Zhambyl, and Almaty regions, as well as to the country’s capital, Astana.
Six modern compressor stations and three automated gas metering stations have been built along the pipeline route. The designed transportation capacity is 15 billion cubic meters of gas per year. This created a multi-level energy supply system covering the country’s key economic regions. The gas pipeline itself has become an uncontested strategic element of Kazakhstan energy system.
Additionally, four emergency-response centers and five shift camps have been established in Aktobe, Kyzylorda, and Turkestan regions, ensuring the reliable and uninterrupted operation of the trunkline.
