Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan signed an agreement on the transit of uzbek gas through the territory of Kazakhstan for consumers in Tashkent.

National gas operators of Kazakhstan JSC “KazTransGas” and of Uzbekistan JSC “Uztransgas” for the first time signed an agreement on the transportation of Uzbek natural gas through the territory of the Republic of Kazakhstan to provide consumers in Tashkent.

Mutually beneficial cooperation between Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan in the gas sector has been achieved thanks to the friendly relations between the two Heads of state Nursultan Nazarbayev and Shavkat Mirziyoyev.

The agreement on the transit of Uzbek gas through Kazakhstan was signed in accordance with the new course of the two countries aimed at close economic and interregional cooperation. Transit of Uzbek gas through the territory of Kazakhstan will ensure the energy balance of the city of Tashkent in the winter.

Under the terms of the agreement, up to 1 billion cubic meters of Uzbek gas should be transported through the territory of Kazakhstan. The agreement was signed on December 29, 2018.

The agreement establishes a fair rate of payment for gas transit services through the territory of the Republic of Kazakhstan, taking into account all costs and risks associated with gas transportation.

Transit deliveries will be carried out through the main gas pipeline “Gazli  – Shymkent” and “Bukhara gas – bearing district – Tashkent – Bishkek-Almaty”.

The agreements reached give a new impetus to the relations between the gas companies of Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan, making them constructive and mutually beneficial. The agreement shall enter into force on the date of its signing.

To date, KazTransGas JSC is the largest transit company of Central Asia and an exporter of its own gas. The company has the opportunity not only to increase capacity, but also to diversify gas flows in any direction.
