Message from the Chairman of the Board on security issues.

The year 2018 is coming to an end, and I would like to take this opportunity to thank each of you for your dedication, hard work in KazMunayGas, and your commitment to security.  As Deputy Chairman of the Board of JSC “National Welfare Fund “Samruk-Kazyna””, I personally observed what outstanding results in the field of security KazMunayGas achieved in 2018. For the first time in its history, the Company has managed to achieve a ZERO rate for work-related deaths over a 12-month period.  The number of accidents with loss of working time (for a period of more than one day as a result of an injury related to work) decreased by 35% compared to 2017.  All this testifies to the increase and strengthening of safety culture in the Company every year. I want to thank you all for that.

However, unfortunately, 2018 was not a year without accidents and accidents-incidents at work still occur.  We want employees of the company and contractors, every single one of them, to always come home safe and sound from work!  We will continuously work on our goal – to achieve 100% safety.  No exceptions!

Our hard work to protect the health and safety of our employees, contractors and the public is a fundamental factor in the long-term and successful business of JSC NC “KazMunayGas”. We will tirelessly promote a safety culture by engaging, developing and maintaining human resources that share our core values and our commitment to integrity and high production standards.

The Company has developed and implemented a number of safety rules, procedures and standards. A lot of work has been done, but it is not enough. We must continue our commitment to a culture where the value of safety is embedded at all levels of our team and is an integral part of the behavioural culture of everyone who performs work at KMG facilities.  This value should be constant even when you leave the workplace, it should become forever part of your personal life. Because a safety culture is a set of unwritten norms and standards that shape thinking, attitude and behavior.

A commitment to security begins with leadership.  However, the leadership alone will not be able to ensure the widespread introduction of culture.

I expect each of you, if you see unsafe conditions or an action, to speak out openly about it, and those you are addressing will listen to you, whether it is the worker performing the task or your supervisor, to provide you with the proper equipment and training to perform the work safely.  This commitment extends to every single KMG employee, including me.

Our goal is to create a culture in which all our employees feel personally responsible for safety, where not only the requirements are met, but also there is an atmosphere where everyone strives to improve the state of safety.

Building a safety culture is a path that has no end stop. We must never rest on our laurels.  The reality is that constant progress along this path produces self-discipline and makes us constantly worry about security, doing everything we can to improve it. Let us be the best company in Kazakhstan and in the oil and gas industry and strive for further and continuous improvement of safety performance!

Once again, I want to thank you for your dedication, contribution to improving the safety performance and efficiency of JSC NC “KazMunayGas”, and wish you and your families a safe, healthy and successful new year 2019. S. Aidarbayev Chairman of Board JSC NC “KazMunayGas”
