Due to abnormal frosts, the record gas consumption was achieved.

PRESS RELEASE

SOUTH-KAZAKHSTAN REGION

January 30, 2018.

Due to abnormal frosts in the southern regions of the country, the consumption of natural gas has increased dramatically. If earlier the South of the country during the peak period consumed a maximum of 24 million cubic meters of gas per day, now this figure is 35 million cubic meters.

The increased load on the gas distribution networks, as well as the abnormally low temperature for the southern regions, caused emergencies and interruptions in the supply of natural fuel in some areas. According to experts, the small gas distribution networks and equipment which are under control and maintenance of small private companies, were mainly failing to operate.

Insufficient pressure provided by private gas suppliers for the consumers was due to the low capacity of their distribution networks of gas pipelines. To obtain benefits, private traders connect as many subscribers as possible to the pipes, the diameters of which do not allow pumping the required amount of gas. As a result, with the increased consumption, their networks are not able to supply the necessary amount of gas to subscribers.

With the increase in the number of subscribers, the reconstruction of gas pipelines for new consumption capacities should be carried out. For example, in the areas of gas pipelines where “KazTransGas ” JSC had previously conducted a program of network modernization, no failures were recorded. At the same time, the entire infrastructure, which is in the service of the national gas operator “KazTransGas ” JSC, provided a stable and almost uninterrupted gas supply to its customers. The arising emergencies were solved quickly.

Record natural gas consumption was not a surprise for “KazTransGas” company. The national operator for the third year in the winter heating season ensures uninterrupted supply of domestic gas from the Western regions for the South of the country. It should be mentioned that earlier the South of the country depended on gas imports. This was achieved through the construction of Beineu-Bozoy-Shymkent gas pipeline, a booster compressor station and a number of infrastructure facilities.
