KazTransGas JSC got the EBRD golden premium for sustainable development
During the past meeting of the European Bank of Reconstruction and Development, the annual premium winners in the sphere of sustainable development were awarded.
Twenty-one EBRD clients were recognized this year for outstanding contributions to environmental and social sustainability. The golden award for achievements in timely reduction of carbon dioxide emissions was presented to the National Gas Operator of the Republic of Kazakhstan, KazTransGas JSC.
Sustainable development lies at the heart of the EBRD’s business activity, and honorary awards are presented annually to partner companies that are committed to sustainability in their work.
As commented in KazTransGas JSC, the company is the main supplier of gas to the domestic market of the Republic of Kazakhstan and provides commercial gas to more than half of the country’s population. Therefore, solving environmental and social issues is a priority in the work of the national operator. The company makes every effort to ensure sustainable development towards a low-carbon future.
Cooperation of KazTransGas JSC with the EBRD began in 2016, when the bank financed investment projects for gasification, construction and modernization of the gas infrastructure of Intergas Central Asia JSC and KazTransGas Aimak JSC.
In cooperation with the EBRD, the reconstruction of Bozoy underground gas storage facility was completed, that allowed to increase the volumes of gas supplies to the southern regions of Kazakhstan and significantly reduce emissions in two large cities – Almaty and Shymkent.
As part of the implementation of investment projects in Mangystau oblast, 104 km were built and 533 km of gas pipelines were modernized, 28 gas regulating points, 17 cabinet-type gas regulators were replaced and installed, 4 automatic gas distribution stations were installed.
The construction of a new automatic gas distribution station AGDS-300 with a capacity of 300 thous.cubic meters per hour was partially financed in Aktobe oblast, which is currently the most powerful in the Republic of Kazakhstan.
In Kostanay oblast, 4 villages and Rudny town were gasified, 35,6 km of new gas pipelines were built, 7 gas regulating points, 2 cabinet-type gas regulators were installed. The construction of a high-pressure gas pipeline from Tobol settlement – Auliekol village with a length of 132 km with the installation of an automatic gas distribution station with a capacity of 30 thousand cubic meters per hour was partially financed.
KazTransGas JSC expressed its gratitude to the EBRD for sharing the experiences and support in the development of the program to reduce fugitive methane emissions and carbon intensity. The implementation of this project will be a significant contribution and one of the key components for achieving carbon neutrality in Kazakhstan by 2060.
