INFORMATIONAL MESSAGE

Nur-Sultan August 3, 2021

Several foreign mass media have distributed the untrustworthy information which stated on methane leakage from the gas pipeline in Almaty oblast happened on July 24, 2021. The reason was the picture and data analysis of the satellite Sentinel-5P of European Space Agency. The message quotes the data of geoanalytical company Kayrros SAS, which states that the level of emissions made 200 tons of methane per hour.

In this regard, KazTransGas JSC announces that the data specified in the publications do not reflect the actual situation and are incorrect. KazTransGas JSC pays special attention to safety provision at its facilities, including ecological safety. The published data on leakage of such volume of gas as 10 mln. cubic foot or 300 thousand cubic meters are untrue and could not remain unnoticed for the 24/7 security control system of the gas company.

There were no leakages of natural gas as of the indicated date (July 24, 2021) on the main gas pipeline of Asia Gas Pipeline LLP (hereinafter – AGP LLP), as well as Bukhara Gas Bearing Region – Tashkent – Bishkek – Almaty MGP and gas distribution systems of Almaty oblast.

The location coordinates of the registered leakage comply with CS-6 of Kazakhstan-China MGP of AGP LLP. The scheduled works on maintenance of equipment have been performed at this compressor station of AGP LLP with the gas bleeding-off into the atmosphere in a volume of 16,7 thousand cubic meters or 0,5 mln. cubic foot. There are all confirming documents and acts available.

These emissions are included into the quota of emissions of AGP LLP for Almaty oblast for 2021.

For safe gas transportation, the permanent monitoring of the gas pipelines integrity is kept. The works on prevention and detection of the possible damages of structures are performed. For these purposes, the flight and driving inspections of routes are performed on main gas pipelines, and the driving inspection of distribution networks is performed with the use of DLS-PERGAM gas analyzer.
