The most profitable in the raw materials sector of Kazakhstan is the National Company KazMunayGas JSC. According to the submitted report, last year the company’s net profit (including subsidiaries) amounted to 519 billion 526 million KZT, which is 1.5 times more than in 2016 (360 billion 171 million KZT). The past year has stabilized the price of black gold, which played into the hands of KMG Managers. However, subsidiaries played a key role in increasing profitability.
KazTransGas JSC continues to hold leading positions in this sector with a net profit of 74 billion 523 million KZT last year. The national gas company has demonstrated effective strategic management in recent years, as evidenced by the opening in 2017 of a new export route for domestic gas to China. In addition, the report of KazTransGas JSC states that the company supplies natural gas to the domestic market at a price below cost. Over the past three years, subsidies to Kazakh consumers, due to other sources of income of the gas operator amounted to 168 billion KZT.
Industrial Company TAU-Ken Samruk National Mining Company JSC included into Samruk-Kazyna State Holding that specializes in the extraction and enrichment of solid minerals is the next in the rating. For the last year, it increased and brought a good income of 56 bln. 600 mln. KZT compared to 37 bln. 400 mln. KZT in 2016. The main income of the Company has brought gold, which is still the most stable and solid guarantee currency in the world.
The Subsidiary of NC KazMunayGas JSC performing oil transportation has the next position. KazTransOil JSC in 2017 has received a net profit of 50 bln. 117 mln. KZT, which is 12.6% higher than in 2016.
Another monopolist, but in the field of information and communication services – Kazakhtelecom JSC reduced profits. The company’s revenues for 9 months last year amounted to 32 bln. 337 mln. KZT. Most likely, in the report for the whole year, the total amount is unlikely to exceed the results of 2016, when the Company earned 63 bln. 779 mln. KZT.
NC Kazakhstan Temir Zholy JSC – infrastructure representative of transport and logistics of the country, whose profit fell significantly compared to 2016. The company also did not publish the full report for the whole year, but in the first 9 months the railway carrier made a profit of 23 bln. 506 mln. KZT and this amount is unlikely to surpass the results of the year before, when the company managed to earn 41 bln. KZT.
In the field of electricity, which has no competitors, the natural monopolist, KEGOC JSC, received a net profit of 17 bln. 758 mln. KZT for the six months of last year and, according to these data, the result for the whole year will not greatly exceed the income of 2016, which amounted to 27 bln. 590 mln. KZT.
Despite the competition in the field of air transportation, Air Astana JSC remains the undisputed leader in this direction. The Company has not yet published the financial statements for the whole 2017 year, but at the end of 9 months the company’s profit amounted to 10 bln. 750 mln. KZT.
In 2016, the company’s profit amounted to 6 bln. 494 mln. KZT. The world EXPO exhibition held in the capital of Kazakhstan Astana helped the carrier well, significantly increasing the flow of tourists to the country and, accordingly, the number of flights.
