Today in Astana, KazTransGas JSC and “Beeline” company signed a Memorandum on the introduction of new data transmission technology in the gas industry. The project is implemented in the framework of the President’s Address and the program “Digital Kazakhstan”.
The installation of innovative equipment, or so-called” smart gas meters”, will begin in Kostanay this summer.
The work of “smart” counters is based on the technology of data transmission NB-IoT (NarrowBand Internet of Things). NB-IoT uses cellular networks to broadcast the signal. Due to the new features of this radio technology, low power consumption of end devices (meters, sensors) is achieved, which allows to extend the battery life of devices up to 10 years. The technology also supports a high degree of security of the connection between the devices and the base station. This standard is licensed and protected unlike similar technologies that operate in the unlicensed frequency spectrum.
As the General Director of KazTransGas JSC Rustam Suleymanov noted, «reasonable gas consumption with high-precision metering devices is beneficial for both citizens and the state. Now in the cities, where the devices will be installed with remote testimony, controllers will not need to go to households. This will allow for avoidance of cases when citizens become victims of fraudsters misrepresenting themselves as gas workers, – said Rustam Suleymanov, – and our inspectors are often exposed to danger. But most importantly, it is cost saving, minimizing the probable leaks and improving the service on gas supply provision”.
The use of such equipment in the gas sector is already called a breakthrough step in the field of digitalization. Thanks to modern technologies, it will be easier to track gas charges and consumption; all data will be recorded by an electronic system that eliminates the human factor. In addition, a very important function of “smart meters” is aimed at maintaining security. In the event of an emergency, the sensor detects the change and quickly transfers the data to the management company.
