The Head of the State gave the start for the operation of the Gas Drying Unit at Bozoy underground gas storage facility under reconstruction. Mr. Nursultan Nazarbayev, the President of Kazakhstan took part in the putting into operation of the Gas Drying Unit constructed at Bozoy underground gas storage facility under reconstruction in Aktyubinsk oblast. The new facility of gas infrastructure of the country has been constructed by the National Company KazMunayGas JSC within the Program of industrial and innovative development of the Republic of Kazakhstan.The Head of the state gave a start for the operation of the new facility on the air, during a traditional teleconference dedicated to the Day of Industrialization of the country.

In order to ensure stable transportation of Kazakhstan gas for export and avoid gas shortage in the southern regions of the country in the peak heating period, a large-scale reconstruction of  Bozoy underground gas storage facility is being implemented.

Within the Project of increasing the quality of gas, its purification from mechanical impurities and moisture, the process diagram of Bozoy underground gas storage facility has been upgraded with a modern Gas Drying Unit. The performed work has allowed to increase the reliability and safety of the gas storage facility as well as increase the daily production efficiency of gas extraction and injection to the designed 27 bln. m3 per day. At that, the gas quality was significantly improved and the injection and gas extraction time has been reduced from 200 days to 150 days.

After the ceremony of commissioning the facility, Mr. Nursultan Nazarbayev, Head of State has noted that today a very important issue has been solved for the state and he thanked the gas workers for the work done.

“Kazakhstan is being an oil and gas country, at that it depended on gas supplies from neighboring states for a long time, – the President said. – However, this problem was solved after the construction of Beineu-Bozoy-Shymkent Main Gas Pipeline. Now, completely providing the domestic market of the state with gas, we can expand the horizons for the export of our gas. Previously, in the winter period, residents of the southern regions figuratively froze. The state’s leadership, the government made all effort to solve the problem with stable gas supplies.

Today, having solved the issue of gasification of the country, we are reaching the export. And now we will increase export supplies of gas, owing to our fields, such as Kashagan, Tengiz, Karachaganak. However, we shall not only sell dry commercial gas, it is necessary to arrange its processing and export already received products. This is a very important project, which is necessary for the people, for the country”.

The gas drying unit provides the possibility for transportation of natural gas from Bozoy gas storage facility through Bukhara-Ural Main Gas Pipeline and Beineu-Bozoy-Shymkent Main Gas Pipeline to consumers of Aktyubinsk oblast and Southern regions of the Republic of Kazakhstan, thereby ensuring high-quality, uninterrupted gas supply during the heating season. In addition, international transit of commercial gas to the Russian Federation, the Republic of Uzbekistan and the People’s Republic of China will be ensured.

The Investment Project of NC KazMunayGas JSC has been implemented by Subsidiary Company of KazTransGas JSC. The constructed complex is unique in its volume and productivity. Prior to that, no such gas infrastructure facilities were constructed in the Republic of Kazakhstan. In the course of implementation of the Project the most modern equipment from Europe and Ukraine has been used.

As Mr. Mukhatay Shanbatirov, First Deputy General Director of Intergas Central Asia JSC has noted that during the solemn ceremony of commissioning of the facility, the Gas Drying Unit is considered one of the largest facilities on the section of the main gas pipeline: “Due to this facility, the daily throughput capacity will increase and the quality of gas will meet international standards. In turn, the service life of the main gas pipelines will also be increased, – said Mr. Mukhatay Shanbatyrov. Now the gas that is being taken from the storage will supply via Beineu-Bozoy-Shymkent  Main Gas Pipeline, which will fully cover the needs of the southern regions of the country in “blue fuel” during the peak heating season, at that ensuring the stable export of domestic gas to China”.

Bozoy underground gas storage facility (hereinafter- UGS) located in the territory of Shalkar region of Aktyubinsk oblast is the largest facility in the Republic of Kazakhstan. It consists of  Zhamankoyankulak and Zhaksykoyankulak storages of  Bozoy group. Gas is transported via Bukhara-Ural Main Gas Pipeline from the Zhanazhol field to Bozoy UGS. UGS is a strategic structure, whose main task is the regulation of seasonal gas consumption. The approved designed volume of gas storage in Bozoy UGS facility is 4.0 bln. m3 of gas. During storage of gas in deep layers (350-385 m.) Bozoy UGS is saturated with vapors of produced waters, as a result of which gas parameters decrease.
