THE GAS REFINERY CONSTRUCTION HAS BEEN STARTED AT KASHAGAN
The Prime Minister of the Republic of Kazakhstan, as part of the working trip to the Atyrau oblast, inspected the implementation of large investment projects in the petrochemical and oil and gas engineering industries and gave the start of the Gas Refinery construction at Kashagan.
Askar Mamin, Head of the Government, Makhambet Dosmukhambetov, Akim of the Atyrau oblast, Nurlan Nogayev, Minister of Energy, Kairat Sharipbayev, Chairman of the Management Board of KazTransGas JSC, Olivier Lazar, Managing Director of NCOC and representatives of GPC Investment LLP laid a symbolic time capsule for the next generation at the start of the refinery construction.
The processing capacity of the enterprise will be up to 1 bln. m3 of raw sulfur dioxide per year, out of which 815 mln. m3 of commercial gas and 119 thous. tons of liquefied gas, 212 thous. tons of sulfur and 35 thous. tons of gas condensate will be produced. Commissioning is scheduled for the 4 th quarter of 2023.
The investment project meets the targeted policy of the Republic of Kazakhstan to solve the most up-to-date issues of economic development – expanding the resource base for further gasification of the country, development of the gas processing industry and environmental protection.
The construction of the refinery solves a number of significant objectives, since gas is a constraining factor for increasing oil production at the Kashagan field. Additional processing will remove the load and gas constraints at the Bolashak Oil and Gas Processing Facility for the use of free oil treatment facilities. This will allow NCOC Contracting Companies to obtain an additional volume of oil production of about 8-10 million tons for the contract period of the PSA, and reduce the volume of gas re-injection into the reservoir.
All these measures are aimed at the rational use of the raw material base of the Kashagan field and at improving the environmental situation in the Atyrau oblast.
Up to 2500 temporary working places will be established during the refinery construction period, and about 600 permanent working places during the operation period.
