KazTransGas JSC together with Akimat of Zhambyl region signed a Memorandum with “Astana-Trans-Oil” LLP on cooperation in the construction of a natural gas liquefaction plant worth about $ 100 million.
The document was signed by Akim of Zhambyl region Kokrekbayev K. N., General Director of “Astana-Trans-Oil” LLP Asankulov A. A., first Deputy General Director of “KazTransGas Aimak” JSC (subsidiary of “KazTransGas” JSC) Aidosov G. A.
According to the signed agreements, Astana-Trans-Oil LLP will independently carry out the construction of a natural gas liquefaction plant with a capacity of at least 100 million cubic meters of input volume per year with the development of the necessary transport infrastructure. In turn, “KazTransGas Aimak” JSC will provide an opportunity to connect to gas pipelines in Zhambyl region and provide agreed volumes of input gas for the smooth operation of the plant.
The implementation of this innovative project is an alternative option for the gasification of the regions in relation to the construction of gas pipelines. Natural gas liquefaction technologies are the best method of transportation for gasification of settlements and industrial facilities of Zhambyl region and other regions of the Republic remote from gas pipelines and fields. This method of gas transportation is also called “virtual gas pipeline”.
In addition, the construction of a natural gas liquefaction plant will create prerequisites for the transition to environmentally friendly fuel of various types of transport, which corresponds to the work carried out by KazTransGas JSC on the introduction of gas motor fuel in Kazakhstan. According to Akim of Zhambyl region Karim Kokrekbayev, the implementation of this project will significantly improve the environmental situation in the region.
– Only in Taraz there is a 350 thousand population and more than 100 thousand cars. Therefore, we are very interested in transferring municipal and public transport to environmentally friendly fuel, – said Karim Kokrekbayev. The Governor of the region also noted the importance of the project, after the implementation of which it will be possible to supply gas to remote non-gasified Sarysu and Moiynkum districts of the region. In addition, the head of the region instructed the Akimat of Taraz to find a free area of 20 hectares near the railway infrastructure for the plant.
This socially significant project will be able to provide jobs – up to 200 people during construction and about 100 people during the operation of the plant, which is consistent with the order of the Head of state Nursultan Nazarbayev to update the state program “Employment Roadmap 2020”.
For reference: Liquefied natural gas (methane, not to be confused with liquefied hydrocarbon gas, which consists of a propane-butane mixture) is a safe, environmentally friendly fuel with high energy characteristics and octane number. When using natural gas as a fuel compared to traditional fuels (diesel, gasoline), carbon monoxide emissions are reduced by 90-97%, carbon dioxide by 25%, nitrogen oxide by 35-60%.
KazTransGas JSC is the national operator of Kazakhstan in the field of gas and gas supply. The group of JSC “KazTransGas” includes extracting, transporting and selling gas and products of its processing enterprises and organizations.
