A briefing on “Gasification of the country, the results of 2015” was held at the site of the Central Communications service under the President of Kazakhstan.

A joint briefing was conducted and the Director of Department of gas industry development of Ministry of energy of Kazakhstan Galym Nurgaziyev and General Director of JSC “KazTransGas Aimak” Ibulla Serdi answered questions of journalists.

According to the speakers, during the years of independence the Republic of Kazakhstan has increased the level of gas production more than five and a half times. At the end of 2015, gas production amounted to 45.3 billion cubic meters, which is 5% higher than the volume of gas production in 2014.

Gas exports also increased. At the end of 2015, exports amounted to 12.7 billion cubic meters, which is 15 % higher than in 2014.

The Director of the Department of the Ministry of energy reminded the participants of the briefing that the Head of state in his Address “Nurly Zhol – the way to the future” gave a positive assessment to the development of energy infrastructure, noting that a lot of work has been done in the energy sector over the past five years within the industrialization program. In particular, the project of construction of the Beineu-Bozoy-Shymkent gas pipeline is being implemented. The third line of the main gas pipeline “Kazakhstan-China”was put into operation.

The development of the gas industry in Kazakhstan is implemented on the basis of system program documents. In 2014, the Ministry of energy of Kazakhstan developed and approved the General scheme of gasification of the Republic of Kazakhstan and the Concept of development of the gas sector, which fixed the key directions of state policy in the gas industry and activities to ensure a stable gas supply to consumers of the country.

By 2030, thanks to the implementation of the General scheme:

• the level of gasification will be increased from the current 7 to 10 million people;
• gas supply will cover more than 1,600 settlements of the Republic.

Since 2006, more than 130 projects on gasification of regions totaling 99 billion tenge have been implemented at the expense of budgetary funds, resulting in the number of gasified settlements increased from 730 to 1200 over the past eight years, while the coverage of the population with gas supplies increased by 2 million people.

Work on gasification of the country is provided at the expense of budgetary funds, as well as funds of the National operator in the field of gas and gas supply – Joint Stock Company “KazTransGas”. It should be noted that the National operator has invested about 111 billion tenge (KZT) for the implementation of gasification projects since 2006.

KazTransGas provides uninterrupted natural gas to more than 7 million subscribers and more than 30 thousand enterprises in 10 regions of Kazakhstan. Last year alone, 70 settlements were connected to gas supply.

The national operator will continue to implement investment programs under the formula “tariffs in exchange for investments” aimed at gasification and modernization of gas distribution networks in eight regions with a total cost of 60 billion tenge (KZT). In addition, more than 7 thousand km of gas pipelines will be laid and modernized by 2020.

Ibulla Serdi separately identified the topic of safety in the use of gas equipment in the home. He noted that the National operator carried out a lot of information work with the population through the media, distributed memos, raids and meetings with subscribers. However, he again urged the public to monitor the work of gas devices, the condition of chimneys and ventilation, do not install boilers questionable and handicraft production and encouraged to install in homes gas detectors.
